Introduction
The NFS protocol was designed as a simple protocol
to provide network access to remote files. It has succeeded far
beyond its designer's dreams. Now 12 years on, NFS is everywhere.
It is available on almost every computing platform and is used
daily by more than 12 million users. While the use of NFS is popular
on enterprise networks, it is almost unknown on the Internet.
WebNFS provides some simple enhancements to NFS that make it easy
to use on the Internet. WebNFS capable clients can cross the firewall
and access files on Internet NFS servers anywhere in the world.
