Gaming on Linux, where are we now and where we can goSpeaker: Luuk van Drunen AbstractGaming on Linux is an abstract thing: theoretically speaking it is possible. Some open source compatibility layers (such as Proton developed by the game studio Valve, known for Steam) are there. But that doesn't mean that it just works as straightforward as it does on Windows. In this presentation, we will show you the current state of gaming on Linux, the technologies behind it and how in the possible near future things could change for the better. But this does require some involvement from you, the community. we will also touch on a common problem with gaming on Linux which is getting the best performance out of your GPU due to outdated or not properly functioning drivers. BiographyLuuk is a passionate gamer and technology adept. Even before he could talk he attended USENIX conferences. Still at highschool, he tries to split his spare time between serious gaming, serious studying, and seriously playing basketball and having fun with friends. |
