Abstract

Zabbix is one of the leading opensource monitoring solutions and it has been around for 15 years. This talk will cover the main features of Zabbix, expanding on some more interesting but maybe also more obscure capabilities. We will look at system requirements, ability to monitor SNMP devices, web pages and other IT infrastructure components. Zabbix offers a native monitoring agent that will be explained with practical examples. Several ways to send custom information to Zabbix, as well as automating it, will be included as well. Zabbix' architecture and development process will be briefly covered. As Zabbix is rapidly improved, selected new features in the latest 2.4 version and the upcoming 3.0 version will be discussed, focusing on important additions and improved maintainability.

Biography

Rihards Olups has spent most of his time with open source solutions. Exposure to Zabbix, one of the leading open source enterprise class monitoring solutions, was with the first public releases more than thirteen years ago, which has allowed to gain practical knowledge on the subject. Lately he has joined Zabbix SIA, the company behind Zabbix, which has allowed him to gain even more experience with the subject. He was also the author of the very first book on Zabbix, Zabbix 1.8 Network Monitoring.
